Mont Joly La Pointe 2019
Well here is a wonder. This isn’t cru Beaujolais; both wines from Mont Joly are ‘Village’. But they have the brightness, flesh and structure to shame plenty of – on paper – better wines. Bright, juicy, layered, and simply delicious.
The story goes much deeper, into eco-friendly farming, a young man with a deep connection to the Domaine de Mont Joly property (and a startlingly good wine-making resume), and sensitive winemaking. The two wines we have available come from different soils, and with a gap in vine age: La Pointe 52 year old vines, Croix Polage 35 years plus. Croix Polage is the more exuberant – fresh, juicy, incredibly pleasurable. la Pointe is more structured and reticent, perhaps destined for a longer life.
